Misdemeanor Offenses

In Virginia, misdemeanor offenses are punishable by up to 12 months in jail or a fine. While misdemeanor offenses are less serious than felony offenses, being charged with a misdemeanor is a very serious problem for many people. In Virginia, criminal convictions remain on your record permanently, where they can have long-term consequences.

Having a criminal conviction on your record can make it harder to find employment or to get a security clearance. Certain criminal convictions (even for non-traffic offenses) can result in the suspension of your driver’s license. For non-citizens, a criminal conviction can make it harder to become a citizen or to re-enter the country, or even result in deportation. And, of course, criminal misdemeanors can result in serious fines or incarceration. Misdemeanor charges should not be taken lightly.

If you are charged with a criminal misdemeanor, you should speak with an attorney so that you know what to expect when you go to court, and so that you are protected once you get there. Call or e-mail us to talk about your case. We will sit down with you and discuss your case for free.
